What Will Your Arizona Permit Be Checked Against?

Codes Are Adopted Locally

Arizona cities and counties adopt their own building codes, so editions differ by jurisdiction. For example, Phoenix adopted the 2024 Phoenix Building Construction Code, effective August 1, 2025.

Sealed by an Arizona-Registered Engineer

Engineering is sealed by an engineer registered with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration. Board rules allow computer-generated seals and electronic signatures (R4-30-304).

County Rules Outside City Limits

In unincorporated areas, counties may adopt and enforce their own building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes (A.R.S. 11-861), and some rural zones may be exempt.

Codes change and local amendments vary. We confirm the exact requirements for your address in your quote. Information checked October 2026.
